among likely voters, 48-46. in nevada, leads by two. new hampshire, leads by seven points. romney launched his presidential campaign there and has a summer home there. we will see. we have three more polls, state polls and big three next week before the debate, a national poll coming out, but you see the environment. one other interesting note on polling, if you average the nine states together in the various leads, almost looks identical to the national polls. five and a half point lead for the president, 49, 44 with rounding, which of course is where all the national polls sit around five points for the president. romney starts his morning in a state that hasn't been able to put into play, pennsylvania. he will speak to veterans at valley forge military academy in a philadelphia suburb. only public event of the day. he will be fund-raising in philadelphia, probably the motivation why he is in philly. slew of national polls show how damaging romney's remark on the 47% has been to his campaign. the most recent national polls trails the president by 5 to 8 points. instead of punchi

ryan, the vice presidential nominee, has actually helped romney's efforts to win the white house or wound up hurting romney's efforts to win the white house. where do you see it? >> well, i've been a big alarmist on the ryan question from the beginning. i thought it was a mistake to choose him. i thought it was a mistake even before choosing him to bolt this campaign to the ryan plan. the romney campaign needs to be about jobs and growth. the decision to make this campaign about medicare and medicaid which is what you do when you adopt the ryan plan much less put ryan on the ticket is a big mistake. i think the campaign is really suffering for it. >> you think democrats down ballot as they say, senatorial candidates, congressional candidates, are happy, donna, that paul ryan is on the ticket with romney? >> absolutely. he gives definition to what the republicans actually stand for. i mean, basically they want to, you know, create another system for medicare. and as president obama and the vice president today spoke out also about social security. so democrats are along the ryan b

-or-break moment. that is dangerous for him. you see, one of the biggest mistakes mitt romney could make is to come out swinging and say something rash that makes him look ridiculous like it did after the libya crisis. he has to be careful to make sure he still looks presidential and doesn't look like some sort of barracuda nipping at obama's heels. there's a delicate balance here, and if mitt romney and his advisers are treating this as the make-or-break moment, that could invite mistakes in my opinion. >> steve, what does camp romney need to be doing in terms of the debate next wednesday? >> well, this idea fact-checking obama is a bad idea. i think continues to make a case that the majority of the american people have demonstrated two years ago they agree with, you've conquered that hill. romney needs to look like a credible, transparent, sincere leader with a plan, and a plan that is specific and simple to understand and how benchmarks like you give investors at bain capital. he wouldn't walk into a room and say, hey, give me your money to buy this company. we'll make it all work here in the bl
